Hello and welcome to the Year 5/6 class page. We are known as Rowan class and I am Miss Buckley, the class teacher. I am in charge of the History and Computing curriculum at St Peter’s. I have a love of history and enjoy sharing my knowledge with the children. I hope to bring history alive and inspire budding historians. I also love computing and particularly enjoy creating a new spreadsheet on excel.
In Rowan class, the children start the morning with a maths revisit. Then, we have our English lesson, where we have a class text that we study in depth. Throughout our English lessons, we focus on a range of activities such as predicting and summarising, role play and hot seating, learning new grammar skills to use in our inspired writes and then putting everything we have learnt together in a final write. English is then followed by spelling and then break. After break, we have reading time, followed by Maths, where we follow the White Rose scheme. In the afternoon, we study our foundation subjects (History, Geography, Science, Computing, PE, Music, PHSE, DR and Art.
We have PE on Wednesday and Thursday,
This half term we have started our first History unit of The Tudor, where we are exploring the lives of the Tudor monarchs, the key historical events of the Break with Rome and the Battle of Bedworth and what it was like to live in Tudor England. After our History unit, we will be doing our first Science unit on Animals, where we will explore the different classifications of animals, inheritance and evolution of animals.
For our English unit this half term, we are studying William Shakespeare’s play ‘Romeo and Juliet’. The children have already thoroughly enjoyed re-enacting the play and exploring the language used by Shakespeare. We have had many class discussions and even written a diary entry from Juliet’s perspective.
