Welcome to Selah Class! My name is Mr. Moss, and I am delighted to be the class teacher as well as the school’s Geography Subject Leader. In Selah Class, every day is filled with exciting opportunities to learn, explore, and grow together.
Our mornings begin with children practising writing their names and completing fun and engaging maths activities to get our brains warmed up. After this, we move into our daily phonics sessions, where we split into year groups to focus on our sounds and reading skills. The rest of the morning is dedicated to maths, reading and English, giving children a strong foundation in the core areas of learning.
This term, our writing focus is based on the much-loved story The Gruffalo, which links perfectly with our enchanted wood topic all about trees and the changing seasons. The children are enjoying using their imaginations and building their vocabulary as we read, retell, and write about the characters and settings.
We also enjoy being active in Selah Class, with PE sessions on Tuesdays and Fridays. These lessons are a great way to develop physical skills, teamwork and confidence. Homework is due each Thursday, and new phonics reading books and homework are handed out every Friday to support learning at home.
If your child is in Reception you can support their learning by:
-

We believe Reception is the year children’s learning starts to ‘come to life’ as they begin learning to read and write, allowing them to start their journey into being creative, motivated learners.
What We Teach
Using the EYFS statutory framework we aim to fully submerge your children in their learning through our meticulously planned topics based curriculum. Topics submerge our children into magical lands of learning, where children can feel supported by adults and their environment but are encouraged to achieve independence in learning.
Children will receive phonics teaching using our Success For All phonics programme. Children move rapidly from hearing sounds, to writing and blending independently.
In Maths we follow the White Rose scheme of learning for the delivery of our maths sessions. This provides a clear sequence of learning and progression for the children. Utilising this curriculum in exciting and engaging contexts enables the children to develop and apply their skills to different scenarios within our topics. We follow the CPA approach of concrete, pictorial and abstract to secure the core skills and use the Number Blocks to reinforce our children’s learning and knowledge.
